PRAXIS Pavilion 2024

Praxis Pavilion of 2024 was showcased at the Angewandte Festival 2024 from June 26th to 29th. The structure was built in the Innenhof of the Oskar Kokoschka Platz 2, the main building of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. This year's pavilion is the culmination of a semester-long project by students in the Machining Praxis in Architecture II course, taught by Afshin Koupaei at the Institute of Architecture and Digital Production Lab.

PRAXIS Pavilion, each year, investigates the possibilities of utilizing machining techniques, not only as a means of making but also as a design apparatus. It helps students broaden their digital manufacturing skills while they are learning the basics of developing fabrication strategies. The students of Machining PRAXIS in Architecture II this year continued experimenting with the wood KERF bending strategies for building a real-scale architectural pavilion.

Der PRAXIS-Pavillon untersucht jedes Jahr die Möglichkeiten der Nutzung von Bearbeitungstechniken, nicht nur als Herstellungsmittel, sondern auch als Designgerät. Es hilft den Studierenden, ihre digitalen Fertigungskompetenzen zu erweitern, während sie die Grundlagen der Entwicklung von Fertigungsstrategien erlernen. Die Studenten von Machining PRAXIS in Architecture II experimentierten dieses Jahr weiter mit den KERF-Biegestrategien für Holz, um einen Architekturpavillon im Originalmaßstab zu bauen.
